ROM is used for holding program instructions that can&#8217;t be changed throughout the life of the computer because the content of ROM is impossible or very difficult to remove. For instance, ROM is used mainly for storing a boot program which is the instructions that the computer follows to perform self-diagnosis when it&#8217;s switched on.
